Niuta Teitelbaum (1917−1943). The Gestapo gave her the nickname “Little Wanda with the braids.” Niuta would braid her hair, dress as a Polish peasant girl, and enter the homes and offices of Nazi soldiers and officers. She would pull out a pistol and shoot them in the head. In one day, Niuta shot and killed five officers. She survived the Warsaw Uprising but was hunted down shortly afterward. Niuta was tortured and executed. Photo by anonymous (c. 1936). Courtesy of the Ghetto Fighters’ House Museum. Catalog No. 1162.
