If the title of this blog caught your eye, well then, you must be from my generation. If you know the answer to the question, good for you. Frankly, I didn’t know the answer when I decided to write my fifth book called Where Did They Bury Jim Morrison, The Lizard King? —A Walking Tour of Paris Cemeteries. So for those of you who don’t know the answer, here is a multiple-choice test.
Why is Jim Morrison called the Lizard King?
(a) Jim called himself the Lizard King because he wanted the media to have something to hold onto and use to recognize him.
(b) Jim grew up in part in New Mexico and snakes, lizards, and other assorted desert creatures were a part of his early upbringing.
(c) His face was leathery and resembled an iguana.
(d) Jim thought he could control lizards through his thought process.
(e) He was given this name because of a poem he wrote called, “The Celebration of the Lizard King” that included the line, “I am the lizard king / I can do anything.”
(f) Jim was a huge fan of King Crimson.
(g) He was high on drugs when he proclaimed himself the Lizard King.
(h) His long-term, on again-off again girlfriend, Pamela Courson gave Jim that name for his prowess in bed.
Okay, which one is it? Other than (c), (f), and (h)—I made those up, I found each one of these reasons on the Internet. The consensus was that (e) was the real reason.
The point of my blog is not really to highlight Jim Morrison. It’s to point out the stuff you find on the Internet as “fact” needs to be scrubbed and verified. I know I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know but I thought this would be a great example (and fun). I run into this all the time while researching my walking tour books.
Oh, by the way, in 2013 a new lizard fossil was discovered that lived in Myanmar. It was named Barbaturex morrisoni in honor of Jim. So regardless of which of the above is the real reason, Jim Morrison is now scientifically validated as The Lizard King.
Catch more about Jim Morrison in my upcoming book: Where Did They Bury Jim Morrison, the Lizard King? A Walking Tour of Paris Cemeteries. But you’ll have to wait.

‘The Lizard King’ cryptogram.
This essay will make the case that the letter combination of ‘Lizard King’ is a cryptogram. The decryption of ‘Lizard King’ using the following methods, reveals the encrypted alpha-numeric sequence of ‘XYZ ABC 01234’.
‘Mr Mojo Risin’ is an anagram of ‘Jim Morrison’. Therefore, we know Morrison was aware of this encryption method. ‘Risin’ is not an actual word, however, it is a bastardisation of the word ‘rising’. Therefore, we know that Morrison was aware that letters can be manipulated to achieve a desired effect. In the song ‘Soul Kitchen’, Morrison states, “Speak in secret alphabets”. Therefore, we know Morrison was aware of the alphabet and spoke using encrypted forms.
These proofs justify the potential that ‘Lizard King’ is an encryption. An example (see, Quora: “What is The Lizard King encryption?”) is given demonstrating this encryption using techniques Morrison described described in his own words.
In conclusion, it is highly plausible that ‘Lizard King’ is an encryption. Using the encryption methods Morrison describes and demonstrated throughout his body of work we can conclude that ‘Lizard King’ is highly likely a deliberate cryptogram of ‘XYZ ABC 01234’.

Thanks Steven. Not sure my brain is wired for this. Check out our upcoming blog on “Unit 387 & Hillsdale College.” It’s all about a woman who broke codes.
Clearly Jim Morrison was smarter than me. It’s a known fact
Hi Gigi; Yes, he was a very intelligent person. There’s a lot of his lyrics I don’t understand but the music is good. Thank you for contacting us. I hope you enjoy the bi-weekly blogs. STEW
I just wanted to compliment your integrity for not accepting any compensation that would compromise your blog. It takes character not to be influenced by money.
Thanks Nathan for your kind words. I hope you enjoyed the blog. STEW
