I was advised to write this blog about me. If I hadn’t been so advised, this particular topic would not be here. So I’m going to skip the embarrassing stuff and get right to the good stuff.
I’m not sure if you saw the recent Yahoo Travel “10 Best Places to Explore theUnderworld.”
They were very cool places and if you are a dedicated traveler, some (if not all) seem to be great places to visit.
However, I’m baffled as to why the Paris Catacombs were not included.
The underground “city” of Seattle was included. The subterranean system of the Fremantle, Australia prison was touted. The Colosseum Hypgeum (basically, the “basement” of the Rome Colosseum) where the gladiators and animals waited before ascending to the arena is included. “Another outstanding, well-researched, and presented book by Stew Ross. It gives a detailed guided walking tour full of facts about the activities of the Gestapo during their occupation of Paris during World War II. I highly recommend this book to everyone who has an interest in what life was like during the Nazi occupation in France.”

Paris Occupation History and Guide Book
This book presents three detailed walking tours and numerous metro station oriented short walks that identified significant occupation locations. Each location on the walk is fully explained. In addition, the author uses many sidebars to provide additional supporting information. The appendix provides a wealth of additional information and pictures that the novice and well read Occupation scholar will find helpful. Whether your first exposure to the Occupation or one of many books you have read, this book is a must read prior to visiting Paris. The format and size of the book make it easy to carry in your carry-on luggage. The book is the first of a three volume set. I can’t wait to see the information to be presented in Volumes 2 & 3.
